'FRO ME TO YOU - I'M NOT A BAKER

Cakes is turning two this week. So, this past weekend, we had her birthday party. She was very specific about they type of cake that she wanted. Which was Dora the Explorer. I began researching the internet, searching for a good Dora the Explorer cake recipe that didn't look too difficult. Because I am not a baker. Not even slightly.

I finally ran across what appeared to be the perfect instructional for a Dora the Explorer cake on the Nick Jr. website. This was going to be the cake I baked for my little Cakes (photo courtesy of the http://www.nickjr.com/):

Unfortunately, this was the cake that I actually baked:

Yes, it was a little creepy. The eyes were a little buggy. The skin was a little ... um ... textured. The nose ... well, there's not a whole lot I can say about the nose. I didn't even bother putting the cowlick in her hair, because it was eerily similar in appearance to a piece of poo. Storebought cake next year? I think so! At least it wasn't as bad as this.

Happy birthday, Cakes!

Karen, I actually laughed out loud and hard when I saw that pic. Here in the office everyone kind of wondered what was up. Then I showed them...

You are a much better mom than me, I wouldn't have even attempted it! LOL!!

BTW, my girls loved the popular video, both the original and the one of your girls. They were glued to the screen watching them perform. Pistol even said, "They sing really well!" Please pass along her compliment to your daughters.

Hugs & Blessings!

Seriously, I'm impressed. We did that "funfetti" cake for my brother and I was anxious enough. I need to try to do cute cakes one of these days. I think your Dora is awesome.

As I started reading this, I was like, "Oh, please, please tell me she made her own and posted the picture!"

And you did! And I laughed and laughed. Not because it was so bad, it's not just when you look at it, but I love that you compared it to the professional one!

I love cake wrecks! Well, the blog "Cake Wrecks", sorry about yours...although seriously it isn't that bad, textured skin, sure, but not a bad attempt, good job!

Crayl - At least I didn't pay for it! Ha ha! The first time I read "Cake Wrecks," I thought I was going to pass out from lack of oxygen; I couldn't breathe because I was laughing so hard!

Joe - Glad I could amuse you and your office - ha ha! It had my family and my parents laughing for hours!

I so know this "defeat" I did the first and last cake of Winnie the Pooh for my 1st born...it was hiliouious!

I remember it having over 100,000,000 of those stars!

I bet it tasted just as good though!

My 2 year old daughter just loves this cake! She pointed to it and said, "Cake Dora! Made Dora cake for meeee!!!" I actually think the cake is pretty good looking. If I tried to make that cake, I would be thrilled if I could make it look as good as you did!

LOL!! I even shared it with Rick. Too funny. Let's see ... is it cheaper to fly me out there or to buy a cake? bummer! I think I lose! :)

Here's a free tip for faces: Take a fan-shaped paintbrush and dip it in water, then lightly brush over the frosting. It smoothes out most of the unwanted texture. I do it for my bug cakes to make them smooth and shiny.

That is sooo much better than I could have done. Seriously, I think you did a super job on it.

I made one truly beautiful Big Bird cake . . . . FOR MY NEICE!! By the time I had kids, I don't know what happened. The year I made the Big Bird cake for my son he couldn't even tell what the cake was supposed to be. I said for the first few years of my son's life he suffered from ugly birthday cake syndrome. Then I started buying them :-) At least you were brave enough to take a picture of it - I didn't, I was so embarassed!

It's not so bad...it could have been much worse! You're a loving mommy for trying it for her. :)

Well, I like it because you tried! The pictures of the cakes always look so simple then you try to make them... But good for you for trying:)

hello comment queen!!! anyhow my thought is that this reminds me of when they make a portrait of a picture (you know the canvas ones they always try to sell you?) but it doesn't look like you anymore. i say way to go for trying!

Holy crap. I am laughing so hard I can hardly type. And it isn't because I could do better...it is because mine would be MUCH worse. It is really creepy. No offense to the birthday child. So fun.

Thanks for linking today!

Yours wasn't so bad. Seriously, Dora is a little scary looking, even professionally done.
